HDSN has been training Primary Health Care Workers (AHW, HA and ANM, Staff Nurses) in Oral Urgent Treatment where the trainees will be able to diagnose oral health problems and provide emergency treatment to the needy. They will also be able to refer those cases that require attention plus in terms of intervention they will be equipped to provide extraction to the needy in their own settings. After providing services to the needy and poor in their respective centres. these trainees will then be qualified to take the second part of the training. This part teaches them how to do simple fillings in remote settings using only hand instruments with Glass Ionomer Cement. This procedure is commonly known as Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART). In due course of their work in their respective settings the health workers will also be advocating for the use of fluoridated toothpastes and give education to the community school children on the technique and effectiveness of tooth brushing with fluoridated toothpaste.
